POSITIVE RESULTS FROM NORTH AMERICAN EXHIBITORS AND ATTENDEES FOLLOWING PHOTOKINA 2014
The 33rd edition of photokina was not only very successful based on positive feedback received from participating exhibitors but also from those attending this event.
Overall, photokina connected 185,000 attendees with 1,074 exhibitors. Among those making the trip to Cologne were over 80 photo equipment and imaging manufacturers and close to 600 North American attendees.
Following the event, our U.S. office surveyed some for their feedback. Exhibitors cited multiple reasons for their being at photokina, among them to increase brand awareness for consumers, easy access to distributors and testing reaction to products from attendees across the globe. “photokina’s international attendees helps Chimera to better service and produce our US manufactured lighting products. The 2014 event was well attended and successful for Chimera”, said Eileen Healy, VP of Sales at Chimera.
Added Lou Schmidt, VP of Hoodman: “Building an international distribution channel for photo dealers worldwide is a challenging job for US companies. We use this event for face to face meetings with distributors and dealers from around the world. We also expose new products to consumers who in turn request our products from their local dealers. The exposure we receive from photokina gives us a great return on our investment”.
The same sentiment was shared by Jim Chi, Senior VP at BlackRapid: “We are a camera accessories brand based in Seattle. Exhibiting at photokina provides an excellent platform from which to expand our international business. The show is unique as we can meet with all of our international distributors and further grow our relationship with our customers”.
U.S. attendees used photokina primarily for product sourcing. “We find Photokina to be very valuable as it enables us to see in one place many of our business partners. Additionally, we usually find new products from companies that are just beginning to bring their product to market”, said Ken Orlando, President Promarks.
Sean Cranor, President of the U.S. retailer Camera West looks at photokina as a great way to connect with its vendors: “The show has opened new opportunities for us to collaborate. By seeing products first hand we can relate our impressions back to our clients helping with pre order sales”.
“Visiting photokina is like being a kid in a candy store. Seeing the latest technology and trends was an amazing experience. We were there to learn about the industry and to network”, added Daniel Usenko, CEO of Pixellu.
The next photokina will take place from September 20-25, 2016 in Cologne, Germany.
