Koelnmesse celebrates its 100 anniversary in 2024

The German trade show organizer Koelnmesse GmbH will reach a historic landmark this year by celebrating its 100th birthday.

The Koelnmesse Fairgrounds in Cologne Germany saw its beginnings in 1924 under the leadership of Konrad Adenauer, the then mayor of Cologne who later made his mark by becoming the Chancellor of Germany.

Adenauer’s vision was based on the belief that international trade would benefit business and economies in Europe and would therefore strengthen relationships between countries. The central location of Cologne within Germany and Europe surrounded by 8 countries quickly made the Koelnmesse fairgrounds a center point for buyers and sellers in the years to come.

Fast forwarding 100 years, Koelnmesse has established itself as one of the global top 10 trade show organizers worldwide with the third largest fairground in Germany. Every year the Koelnmesse trade show program attracts over 54,000 exhibiting companies from 122 countries and approximately three million attendees from 200 countries playing in an essential part in the local economy.

The Koelnmesse program is made up of roughly 80 trade shows, 25 of them outside of Cologne in Asia, North America and the Middle East. The program spans industry clusters in Food, Furniture, Digital Media, Mobility, Health, Art, Leisure and Tools. Recruitment for these events is done via a network of representatives in 100 countries with wholly owned subsidiaries in Brazil, China, Columbia, India, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

Awarding the continuous progress towards innovative and sustainable client services, the Koelnmesse group was just recognized with the “Company of the Year 2024” awarded by the German Business Magazine “Focus” based on research conducted by “Deutschland Test”. The award honored Koelnmesse’s ambitious strategy to become climate neutral by 2028 via an intelligently integrated, climate-neutral system. Multiple heat sources will provide significant CO2 savings reducing the dependence from single energy sources. Exhibitors at Koelnmesse will benefit from a stable price structure during all seasons.

As the 20-year-old US arm of the organizer, the Chicago based Koelnmesse Inc. plays an integral role in assisting North American exhibitors and attendees to prepare for Koelnmesse events. Here is where exhibitors can apply for US Group participation or individual exhibit space, receive information on funding programs or find resources for travel, freight forwarding and booth construction.

The US office is also known as the organizer of the h+h america trade show, the largest US event in the North American Handicraft industry which will take place from May 1-3, 2024 in Rosemont, IL.
